"Cheshire Cat Moon" lyrics

Cheshire Cat Moon
(from the CD Cheshire Cat Moon)

We were driving along by the light off the river
Bouncing down to a lone sandy dune
Moving swift goes the river as we travelled along
By the light of the Cheshire cat moon

Blacktop roads never end they roll on forever
Tracing lines through the farms and the fields
Where the corn grows in rows just wide enough to hide in
By the light of the Cheshire cat moon

So hold me tightly whispering soft words
To me in the night
Dancing naked in the corn fields
Cheshire cat moon smiling bright

We were driving along by the light off the river
Singing songs out of tune to the night
Gravel road tucked away and outlined in cat-tails
I have loved many hearts by your side

Young and soft and the world had no major importance
Touching hands in the dark summer dew
River sweeping away all the innocence and laughter
I was younger than I ever knew

So hold me tightly whispering soft words
To me in the night
Dancing naked in the cornfields
Cheshire cat moon smiling bright

We were driving along by the light off the river
Summer wind wrestling through my short hair
Sometimes when I'm alone I can still feel the river
And the calm lazy Green County air

Smile on me down from where you are ominously hanging
Way up there where the stars never sleep
Dreams we dream when we're young are often forgotten
Youthful dreams in my heart I will keep
